Woman Who Lost 19 Stone Faces Shock Cancer Diagnosis After Transformation

A woman who dramatically transformed her body by losing 19 stone has now been diagnosed with a serious form of cancer. The news has shocked many who followed her weight-loss journey.

The woman, named Sarezah Lake, began her weight loss after struggling with obesity for many years. She lost about 120 kg (which is approximately 19 stone) through surgery and lifestyle changes. Her transformation drew admiration from friends, family, and social media. She said she felt healthier and happier after changing her eating habits, exercising more, and undergoing medical care.

But in recent weeks, Sarezah had been feeling unwell. After medical tests, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a type of blood cancer.

This diagnosis came as a surprise, especially following her major weight loss. AML is a condition in which the bone marrow produces large numbers of abnormal white blood cells. These cells interfere with normal blood cell production, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, infections, and easy bleeding.

Sarezah told reporters she had assumed that after shedding so much weight and improving many of her health markers, she would be clear of serious illness. She said she felt shocked and frightened by the diagnosis. She also shared that symptoms like tiredness, breathlessness, and some bruising had seemed mild at first or attributed to recovery from her weight loss, but then became stronger over time.

Medical experts say that dramatic weight loss does improve many health risks, such as for diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers, but it does not prevent all illnesses. Acute myeloid leukaemia appears for many reasons, including genetic changes, environmental exposures, or unknown causes.

Treatment for AML often involves chemotherapy, and in some cases, bone marrow transplant or targeted therapy. Sarezah has begun treatment under medical supervision. Supporters say she is showing courage and determination to fight. Family and medical teams are hopeful she will respond well, though the journey is likely to be difficult.

Sarezah’s story has raised awareness about how weight loss, even when successful, does not make someone immune to all health problems. Many people who saw her transformation have expressed support and concern. Her case is a reminder that regular medical check-ups remain important, especially when new or unusual symptoms appear.
