Trump attacks UN, migration, and climate change policies

President Donald Trump delivered a fiery speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, mixing off-script remarks with sharp criticism of world leaders, migration policies, and climate change efforts. The Trump UN speech quickly drew global attention for its blunt language and controversial claims, with Trump questioning the very purpose of the UN itself.

Trump began his speech without a working teleprompter, but quickly turned the glitch into a metaphor for the UN’s broader failures. He accused European nations of destroying their heritage with unchecked migration, warning that countries allowing mass immigration were “going to fail.” He urged leaders to adopt his strict U.S. border policies, which he said had successfully deterred illegal crossings.

On climate change, Trump dismissed global warnings as “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world.” He criticized green energy initiatives, claiming they weakened developed nations while benefiting polluting countries. Trump argued that UN-backed climate policies hurt American industries and unfairly shifted manufacturing to nations like China and India.

Despite the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Gaza, Trump devoted little time to outlining solutions. He criticized European nations for still buying Russian energy and accused China and India of funding Russia’s war through oil purchases. He also suggested NATO should be prepared to shoot down Russian aircraft violating allied airspace, though he stopped short of committing U.S. forces.

Beyond foreign policy, Trump mocked the UN itself, pointing to broken escalators and teleprompters as symbols of dysfunction. He questioned whether the body had any real purpose, accusing it of issuing “empty words” instead of solving conflicts. He further noted that, despite his own efforts to end wars, the UN had never offered to help finalize peace agreements.
