Trump Arrives for Second State Visit Hosted by King Charles

The Trump UK visit has officially begun, marking the US president’s second state trip to Britain. Donald Trump described it as a “great honour” to be welcomed again by King Charles III, with his agenda focused on trade, technology, and strengthening ties.

Air Force One landed at London Stansted Airport on Tuesday evening, where Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper greeted Trump as he stepped off the plane. Accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, he traveled to Winfield House, the US ambassador’s residence in Regent’s Park. On Wednesday, Trump will meet King Charles at Windsor Castle for a ceremonial welcome followed by a state banquet.

Large protests are expected across London, though the president has no public-facing events planned. Speaking to reporters before landing, Trump praised his friendship with King Charles and emphasized the uniqueness of being invited twice for a state visit. He said, “It’s the first time this has ever happened where somebody was honoured twice. So, it’s a great honour.”

Trade, technology, and investment

The Trump UK visit carries major economic significance. Washington and London are preparing to sign a new technology agreement aimed at boosting cooperation in artificial intelligence, data centers, and semiconductor industries. Reports suggest Trump will be joined by top executives, including Nvidia’s Jensen Huang and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.

Investment announcements are also expected. Sky News reported that BlackRock plans to commit $700 million to British data centers, linking the move to Trump’s visit. The UK was the first country to sign a bilateral trade agreement with the Trump administration earlier this year, under which tariffs on aluminum and steel are set to be scrapped. Although the changes are pending, Trump hinted at faster relief for UK steel exports.

Talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers are scheduled for Thursday. Trade will be a central topic, alongside potential adjustments to the May agreement. “They want to refine the trade deal a little bit. We’ve made a deal, and it’s a great deal. I’m into helping them,” Trump told reporters.

The Trump UK visit highlights both ceremony and substance, blending royal traditions with negotiations over economic cooperation. With new agreements on technology, investment commitments, and fresh talks on tariffs, the state trip underscores the depth of the US-UK partnership.
