December in Ghana Sees Strong International Participation – GTA

Accra, Ghana — The Director of Communications at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Bright Asempa Tsadidey, says the December in GH initiative has attracted a large number of international visitors, with festive events spread across almost all regions of the country.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Tsadidey explained that the initiative, implemented under the Black Star Experience, was deliberately promoted internationally through roadshows to position Ghana as a top Christmas and end-of-year destination.

“When you move around town, you can see key locations decorated with Christmas themes. For the first time, nearly all regions are hosting events captured under the December in GH calendar. Christmas activities are no longer limited to Accra,” he said.

He noted that the strong turnout is reflected in hotel occupancy levels, with major hotels reporting near-full bookings. “We have done our part. The visitors have arrived, and from the confirmations we’ve received, most of the big hotels are almost fully booked,” he added.

Responding to claims that many Ghanaians are not feeling the Christmas spirit, Tsadidey said the perception may stem from people not attending the events. “It’s not entirely true that the Christmas vibe is missing.

If people are not participating in the events, they may not be experiencing what December in GH has to offer,” he explained.

He added that the GTA has made information readily available through its dedicated website, DecemberinGH.com, which provides details on events, venues, and organisers.

On accommodation standards and customer experience, Tsadidey said the Authority has stepped up engagement with hoteliers, rolled out nationwide training programmes, and partnered with a university in New York to improve service delivery and further strengthen Ghana’s tourism brand.
