Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard will not play for the rest of December because of an upper‑body injury. The team announced on Monday that Bedard has been placed on injured reserve. He will be reevaluated in early January to see how he is recovering.
The injury happened during the last moments of Chicago’s 3‑2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. Bedard was hurt in a face‑off in the final seconds of the game. He left the ice holding his shoulder and went straight to the locker room.
Coach Jeff Blashill said Bedard does not need surgery at this time. The team will start his rehabilitation now, but they will wait until January to fully check his condition. “We want to make sure he is ready before returning,” Blashill said.
Bedard, 20, has been one of the Blackhawks’ top players this season. He leads the team in scoring and is considered one of the best young talents in the NHL. His absence will affect the team’s offense in the remaining games of December.
The Blackhawks have seven games left this month. They will play all of them without Bedard. His return will be important, especially because the team has a tough schedule in January with several challenging games ahead.
While missing games is not ideal, fans may be relieved that Bedard avoided surgery. The team hopes resting now will help him come back stronger in the new year.
Coach Blashill said other players will need to step up during Bedard’s absence. “We need everyone to work together and give their best on the ice,” he said.
The Blackhawks plan to give more updates once Bedard is checked in January. His recovery will be key to the team’s plans for the new year.
