Arbuckle Tosses Three TDs as Argonauts Outgun Lions in 52-34 Shootout

Toronto  — Nick Arbuckle delivered his best performance of the season, throwing for 430 yards and three touchdowns while adding another on the ground, as the Toronto Argonauts powered past the B.C. Lions 52-34 in a high-scoring CFL clash Saturday at BMO Field.

The Argos (3-8) snapped a three-game losing skid with a dominant offensive display, piling up 543 total yards. Jake Herslow caught two long touchdown passes and Kevin Mital added another major, while Spencer Brown rushed for a score and a two-point conversion. Veteran kicker Lirim Hajrullahu chipped in with three field goals and five converts.

Toronto’s defence also made a statement. Benjie Franklin intercepted Nathan Rourke and returned it 57 yards for a touchdown, swinging momentum in the second quarter. Wynton McManis later stripped Rourke for a fumble that sealed the win.

Rourke finished with 326 yards and two passing touchdowns for B.C. (5-6), connecting twice with Jevon Cottoy. James Butler powered the ground game with 83 rushing yards and two TDs, while Sean Whyte contributed two field goals and three converts. Receiver Alexander Hatcher crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with an eight-catch, 131-yard outing.

The Lions led 14-3 after the opening quarter, but Toronto stormed back with 25 second-quarter points, capped by Arbuckle’s touchdown strike to Mital just before halftime. From there, the Argonauts never trailed.

Herslow’s two big-play scores — a 40-yard catch late in the third quarter and a 70-yard strike early in the fourth — helped Toronto pull away for good. Herslow finished with 149 yards, while Dejon Brissett added 118.

The Lions slipped to 3-3 on the road despite Rourke surpassing 3,000 passing yards for the season. Micah Awe led B.C. with nine tackles.

Toronto controlled possession for over 33 minutes and outgained the Lions 543 to 456. The Argonauts now look to build momentum as they continue their push to salvage the season.

B.C. is set to visit the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday, September 5 (4:30 p.m. ET).
