According to reports from Swedish media outlets, Elisabeth Lann, the newly appointed health minister of Sweden, collapsed on stage during a press conference on Tuesday. Before this incident, the 48-year-old was reported to have stood alongside Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Christian Democrats party leader Ebba Busch, addressing questions from journalists.

Earlier that day, Mrs Lann was introduced as the successor to Acko Ankaberg Johansson, who announced his resignation unexpectedly on Monday for undisclosed personal reasons. Having been a member of the Christian Democrats since 1986, Mrs Lann previously served as a municipal councilor in Gothenburg, where she was renowned for her work on social welfare and healthcare issues.
Based on the footage shared on social media, Mrs Lann had just concluded her remarks and was stepping back when she suddenly lost consciousness. She fell abruptly on the floor and reportedly hit her head on the lectern. Meanwhile, government security personnel reacted immediately to help her as she tried regaining balance.
She was assisted offstage but later returned to the conference room after regaining her feet. According to her, “This was not exactly a normal Tuesday, and this is what can happen when you have a blood sugar drop.” Her spokesperson emphasized that Mrs Lann had fainted mid-event and had since recovered enough to return briefly to address attendees.
The unfortunate incident that happened to her comes at a time when Sweden’s healthcare system is under careful and critical observation, facing growing pressure over hospital wait times and staff shortages, which were some of the key issues that she was expected to address.
The sudden end to her first public appearance raised concerns about whether she would be able to immediately take on the demanding role in the health ministry office.
