Russian Attacks on Ukraine’s Kyiv Kill 3 and Damage Government Building

Kyiv, Ukraine — Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Kyiv killed at least three people and wounded 18 others on Sunday, according to city officials. Drone and missile strikes set fire to dozens of residential buildings and caused damage to the government’s Cabinet building in one of the largest bombardments of the capital in recent months.

Civilian Deaths Reported

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the dead included a young woman and a one-year-old child. Rescue teams later confirmed the infant’s body was recovered from rubble in the city’s Darnytskyi district.

Drone debris triggered multiple fires, including in a four-story apartment block in eastern Kyiv and in several high-rise buildings in the western Sviatoshynskyi district. Authorities also reported the death of an elderly woman in a shelter, though the cause of her death has not been clarified.

Government Building Hit

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that the Cabinet building, which houses ministerial offices, sustained damage to its roof and upper floors.

“For the first time, a government building has been struck in Kyiv,” Svyrydenko said. “We will rebuild, but the lives lost cannot be restored. The international community must increase pressure on Russia, especially in the energy sector.”

Surge in Russian Strikes

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 805 drones and 13 missiles overnight, targeting multiple regions across the country. Explosions were reported in:

  • Kremenchuk – where power outages were reported.

  • Kryvyi Rih – where urban infrastructure was damaged.

  • Odesa – where residential buildings and civilian facilities were hit.

  • Sumy and Zaporizhzhia – where casualties were also confirmed.

Officials said Russia was “deliberately striking civilian areas,” while Moscow issued no immediate response.

Ukrainian Counterattack

Ukraine said its drone forces attacked the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk region, inflicting “comprehensive fire damage.” The pipeline is a key route for Russian oil exports to Hungary and Slovakia.

Russian state media reported that air defenses intercepted 69 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Escalating Conflict

The strikes on Kyiv mark the first time a government building in the capital has been damaged during the war. Officials warn that civilian casualties could rise further as Russian drone and missile assaults continue.
