Ace Frehley, the famous guitarist and founding member of the rock band KISS, has died at the age of 74. His family confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, in Morristown, New Jersey, after suffering complications from a fall at home.
According to his family, Frehley died peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones. They said they were heartbroken but thankful to be with him in his final moments. His wife and daughter were among those by his side.
Frehley was born Paul Daniel Frehley in New York City in 1951. In 1973, he joined forces with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss to form KISS one of the most famous rock bands in history. Known for his silver “Spaceman” costume and powerful guitar solos, Frehley helped define the band’s loud and theatrical image.
He played a major role in many of KISS’s classic songs and was loved for his creative guitar work. In 1978, each band member released a solo album, and Frehley’s version featuring the hit song New York Groove became a success on its own. He left the band in the early 1980s but rejoined several times for reunion tours, including in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In late September, Frehley reportedly fell in his home studio, which caused serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital and placed on life support before his condition worsened.
After his death, tributes came from fans and his former bandmates. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley described him as “an irreplaceable rock legend” who will always remain a part of KISS’s story. Peter Criss also said he was thankful to have shared so many memories with him.
Ace Frehley’s death marks the first among KISS’s original four members. His music, style, and energy inspired many generations of rock fans around the world. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, and his daughter, Monique.
