NFL referee Adrian Hill had to leave the field after hurting his leg during Thursday Night Football. The injury happened in the third quarter of the game between the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans.
Hill was running behind a play when he suddenly grabbed his left leg in pain. He tried to keep moving but could not put weight on it. Two members of the Texans’ medical staff came to help him off the field.
Because he could not walk, Hill was put on a cart and taken to the back of the stadium for treatment.
Before leaving, Hill handed over his referee duties to Roy Ellison, who moved from umpire to referee for the rest of the game.
This meant the officiating crew had to adjust, as the umpire role was not filled for the remainder of the match.
Hill was taken for medical tests after the game. At the time of the injury, the Texans were leading 20–16. Injuries to referees are rare, and Hill’s sudden exit caused concern among fans and teams.

The NFL has not yet released information about Hill’s condition or how long he will be out.
Officials and teams will watch closely to make sure referees are safe on the field and to prevent similar injuries in the future.
