The man charged in connection with threats made against Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown has been released on bail while he awaits his next court appearance.
Kanwarjyot Singh Manoria, 29, was granted $10,000 bail on July 15, a day after his arrest. He is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. The charges have not been proven in court.
Peel Regional Police launched an investigation after Brown disclosed that threatening emails had been sent to him and his family last month. A police cruiser was periodically stationed near his home in response to the threats.
Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence, where electronic devices were seized before Manoria was taken into custody.
Brown told Global News that the email claimed to originate from overseas and demanded that he resign, warning that he, his wife, and his son would be killed if he did not comply.
Under his bail conditions, Manoria is prohibited from contacting any member of the Brown family and must stay at least 200 metres away from them.
