LOS ANGELES – Rapper Lil Nas X has spoken publicly for the first time since his arrest in Los Angeles last week, describing the ordeal as “terrifying” but assuring fans that he is “going to be all right.”
The 26-year-old, born Montero Lamar Hill, was detained after police found him roaming Ventura Boulevard around 4 a.m. wearing only underwear and cowboy boots. Footage later showed the Grammy winner stripping naked and clashing with police.
Authorities said three officers were injured after Lil Nas allegedly charged at them before being restrained. He was taken to hospital before being booked.
He now faces four felony charges – three counts of battery on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest – to which he pleaded not guilty in court on Monday, according to TMZ. Conviction could carry a lengthy prison sentence.
In a video posted to Instagram, Lil Nas X told fans: “That was f***ing terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is gonna be all right.”
The incident has raised concern about the star’s wellbeing. In recent months, he had hinted at personal struggles in posts to his followers.
