Legendary Actress Diane Ladd Passes Away at 89

Famous Hollywood actress Diane Ladd has died at the age of 89. Her daughter, actress Laura Dern, confirmed that Ladd passed away at her home in Ojai, California.

Diane Ladd was born in Mississippi in 1935 and had a long career in movies and television that lasted more than sixty years. She was known for her strong acting and her ability to bring deep emotion to every role she played.

 

Ladd was nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her nominations came from her roles in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), Wild at Heart (1990), and Rambling Rose (1991). In Rambling Rose, she acted with her daughter, Laura Dern. They made history as the first mother and daughter to be nominated for Oscars for the same movie.

Over her career, Ladd appeared in many popular films, including Chinatown, Primary Colors, and Joy. She also starred in TV shows such as Alice and ER. Her roles often showed women who were brave, loving, and full of life.

Laura Dern shared a touching message after her mother’s death. She wrote, “My amazing hero and my beautiful mother, Diane Ladd, passed away this morning with me by her side. She was the greatest mother, grandmother, artist, and friend. We were blessed to have her in our lives.”

Ladd’s ex-husband, actor Bruce Dern, also spoke warmly of her. He said she was “a wonderful actress and an amazing mother to our daughter.”

Her passing comes only a few months after the death of her husband, Robert Charles Hunter, who died in August 2025. In recent years, Ladd had spoken about her struggles with lung disease but continued to act and write.
