Justin Herbert to Have Surgery for Broken Left Hand

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will have surgery on Monday to fix a broken bone in his left hand, his team confirmed. This is his non-throwing hand.

Herbert got hurt during Sunday’s 31–14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. In the first quarter, he was tackled while running and his hand hit the ground. Even with the injury, Herbert stayed in the game and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Johnston.

He left the field briefly for medical attention, and backup Trey Lance played for a few plays. Herbert returned in the second quarter wearing a protective glove. He finished the game completing 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. His performance helped the Chargers secure a strong win.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed the injury and said Herbert needs surgery to repair the fracture. It is not yet clear if he will miss any upcoming games.

Herbert said he feels positive about returning soon. “I’m treating it as if I’m playing on Monday,” he said. The Chargers’ next game is a Monday Night Football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The team will watch Herbert’s recovery after surgery to decide when he can play again. Chargers fans hope the procedure goes well and that their star quarterback will be ready for the next game.
