Former NFL Quarterback Mark Sanchez in Stable Condition After Stabbing in Indianapolis

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed early Saturday morning in Indianapolis, Indiana, police said.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. near the Wholesale District, close to the Indiana Statehouse. Police said two men were involved in a fight, and both were hurt. One man had cuts, while the other had stab wounds.

Sanchez was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said he is now in stable condition. Police arrested him in the hospital on suspicion of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. He has not yet been moved to jail. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide if he will face formal charges.

In a statement, Fox Sports, where Sanchez works as a football analyst, thanked doctors and nurses for their care and asked people to respect his privacy as he recovers. Police said they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

Sanchez had been scheduled to work as a broadcaster for Sunday’s NFL game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. However, due to his condition, he will not be part of the broadcast.

Mark Sanchez, now 38 years old, played eight seasons in the NFL. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round in 2009 and helped the team reach two straight AFC Championship games. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington before retiring in 2018.

Many fans and former teammates have shared messages online wishing him a quick recovery. Police say they are still reviewing video footage of the incident but do not believe anyone else was involved. Sanchez remains under medical care as the investigation continues.
