Fans of the new sci-fi comedy Bugonia did something unusual to celebrate the movie: they shaved their heads. The event, held in Los Angeles, gave fans a chance to join in a scene from the film.
In the movie, Emma Stone plays Michelle Fuller, a CEO of a pharmaceutical company. In one scene, she is kidnapped by people who think she is an alien, and they shave her head. Fans at the special screening were invited to do the same.

Bugonia is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who is known for films like The Favourite and Poor Things. The movie also stars Jesse Plemons as Teddy Gatz, a conspiracy theorist, and Aidan Delbis as his cousin Don, who is on the autism spectrum. The story follows the two as they kidnap Michelle Fuller, believing she is from another planet. Critics have praised Delbis’s performance for being realistic and moving.
At the event, a barber was available for fans who wanted to shave their heads. Many said it was a fun experience and a way to feel part of the story. Sam Sherman, one fan, said it was “hard to say no” to a free haircut and an early screening of the movie. Matthew Lopez, another fan, said shaving his head made him feel closer to the film’s story.
Bugonia will first appear in select theaters on Friday and will open across the country on October 31. The movie’s head-shaving event is a new kind of promotion, letting fans experience part of the film in real life.
The remarkable event shows how far fans are willing to go to celebrate a film. It also highlights the creative ways movie studios are connecting with audiences and making movie-going more exciting.
