VENICE – Diego Borella, an assistant director on the hit Netflix series Emily in Paris, collapsed and died on set while filming in Italy, local media reported. He was 47.
Borella suffered an apparent heart attack while the cast and crew were shooting at Venice’s Hotel Danieli on Thursday evening, according to La Repubblica. Emergency medics arrived within minutes but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at around 7:30 p.m., the Venice health service confirmed.
The production was filming the final scene of Season 5 and has reportedly been suspended. Shooting had been due to wrap on August 25.
Borella, who was born in Italy, worked extensively in Rome, London and New York during his career.
Netflix has not yet issued a statement.

Season 5 of Emily in Paris, starring Lily Collins, is scheduled to premiere on December 18. The new episodes shift the storyline from Paris to Rome and Venice, where Emily faces fresh professional and romantic challenges.
The Darren Star–created comedy, which debuted in 2020, has become one of Netflix’s most-watched series globally.
