Turkish First Lady Urges Melania Trump to Advocate for Gaza Children

Istanbul — Emine Erdoğan, the First Lady of Turkey, has written to United States First Lady Melania Trump, urging her to raise international attention on the plight of children in Gaza.

In her letter, Emine Erdoğan cited Melania Trump’s recent correspondence with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the American first lady highlighted the suffering of children in Ukraine and Russia. Erdoğan praised Melania for her advocacy, describing her concerns as “reflective of a conscience deeply attuned to global issues.”

“As you stated in your letter, every child has the universal and undeniable right to grow up in a loving and safe environment,” Erdoğan wrote, emphasizing that this right “is not exclusive to any region, ethnicity, religion, or ideology.”

The Turkish first lady called supporting children affected by conflict a “fundamental responsibility towards the human family” and expressed hope that Melania’s compassion for Ukrainian children could extend to those suffering in Gaza.

She highlighted that over 62,000 civilians, including 18,000 children, have died in Gaza over the past two years, drawing a parallel with the 648 Ukrainian children who have lost their lives in the war.

Erdoğan’s letter signals Turkey’s continued focus on humanitarian advocacy and seeks to leverage Melania Trump’s influence to draw attention to children caught in global conflicts.
