Ballon d’Or 2025 winners: Dembele and Bonmati crowned in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona star Aitana Bonmati have been announced as the Ballon d’Or 2025 winners. The prestigious awards were presented on Monday at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

Dembele lifted his first Ballon d’Or after helping PSG secure their first Champions League title. Meanwhile, Bonmati continued her dominance in women’s football by winning her third consecutive Ballon d’Or, making history alongside legends Michel Platini and Lionel Messi.

Dembele outperformed Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal to secure the men’s prize. The French international scored 35 goals and provided 16 assists in 53 matches last season. Importantly, he was decisive in PSG’s Champions League campaign, contributing to 14 goals in 15 games.

Receiving the award from Ronaldinho, Dembele became emotional and called his mother on stage.
“It’s incredible to win a trophy like this,” he said. “I worked hard to bring PSG its first Champions League, and being rewarded with the Ballon d’Or is truly exceptional.”

Although Yamal missed out on the main prize, he still received recognition. The teenager won the Kopa Trophy for the best under-21 player for the second year in a row.

On the women’s side, Aitana Bonmati continued her remarkable run. She won ahead of teammate Mariona Caldentey and secured her third straight award. This achievement placed her among football’s elite, with only Platini and Messi reaching the same milestone.

“Third time in a row here, and I still can’t believe it,” Bonmati said. “I owe Barcelona everything. This is the club of my life.”

Despite Spain’s defeat to England in the Women’s Euro 2025 final, Bonmati stood out as the tournament’s best player. Additionally, she helped Barcelona claim a domestic treble and reach another Champions League final.
